You must complete a semester project that is (i) research-oriented or (ii) novel-industrial (if you are in the Professional Masters program) and relates to the topic of this course. The project must relate to some aspect of GenAI being used in Software Engineering processes and tools. You should work in teams of 3-4 students. I will spend time in class outlining what I think are interesting and feasible projects, though you have significant freedom in shaping them how you please.
Any type of research project is acceptable, including: analytic, argumentative, defining, compare/contrast, interpretive, experimental, or survey. The topic may not be proprietary in any way, it must be able to be shared with reviewers and the class.
Research-oriented: the goal of this project is to advance the science and practice of GenAI in Software Engineering.
Novel-industrial : the goal of this project is do discover new insights from applying GenAI established knowledge (e.g., frameworks, principles, practices) to a Software Engineering task.
If you are a senior grad student, the class project should help you advance in your research. If you are a junior grad student, the class project should help you explore ideas that could lead to your dissertation.
